Colour wood-engraving published as a Supplement to the Christmas issue of the Illustrated Sydney News, Dec.1869. Shows a man sleeping in a wooden chair with a dog lying asleep to his left and a pair of dead ducks and a letter on the floor to his right, open books and a newspaper on the table, dream scene above his head of guests arriving at a cottage covered in snow. Samuel Calvert was a painter and one of Australia's best known wood engravers. Born in London, he migrated to Australia in 1848. He produced hundreds of engraved illustrations for numerous publications. Some toning and scratch mark in the image. Laid down with mount also adhered to the print.
