Another Prospect of Caernarvon taken on the East side' drawn and engraved by John Boydell
Published originally by John Boydell at the Globe near Durham Yard in the Strand, this impression circa 1820.
John Boydell (1719-1804) was a draughtsman, line engraver, publisher and print seller. This engraving is from a series of views of Britain aiming at demonstrating the natural beauty and history of the country to English and foreign tourists. It is an early example of his engraved work.
He was to become a very important publisher in the history of English prints in the 18th century changing the print trade from an import one to an export one by the 1770s. In 1790 he became Lord Mayor of London, and in the early 1800s set up the Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, selling fine engravings of paintings by the finest English painters of the day from scenes of Shakespeare.
Small repaired tear in top margin.
