Antique 19th century Belgian camellia print


From 'L'Illustration Horticole' which was one of the finest botanical periodicals, and was first published in Belgium in 1854. It aimed educate people about the fascinating plants being gathered from around the world and hopefully persuade them to buy from the associated plant nurseries. The driving forces behind it were Charles Lemaire, a professor of botany, Ambroise Verschaffelt of the Nursery Verschaffelt and the Linden family, renowned Belgian horticulturists. Faint foxing at the top of the sheet.
