Rowing lithograph from ‘The Australian Sketcher’. 1880. The portraits are of Trickett (background) and Hanlan (foreground) who rowed for the World Title in November 1880. Ashton was a painter, illustrator and cartoonist, who came to Australia at the encouragement of his brother Julian Ashton in c1877. He remained in Australia for 14 years mainly working as an illustrator for various newspapers.
