'Interno del colosseo scavato nel 1813, e ricoperto nel 1814' Construction of the Colosseo (Colosseum) was started by Vespasian in 72 AD in the grounds of Nero's private Domus Aurea. The massive structure could seat more than 50,000. Rossini was an Italian who earned a reputation as one of the best neoclassical etchers. His career coincided with a period of great archaeological activity so that so he was able to draw complete buildings which would have been partly hidden to 18th century artists. Faint foxing.
