Printed on India paper and from 'An Account Of The Deep-Dene, In Surrey: The Seat Of Thomas Hope, To Which There Are Views And Illustrations (1826)', by JP Neale. Exterior view of Thomas Hope's Deepdene residence in Surrey. Thomas Hope (1769-1831) born in Holland, he settled in England c. 1796 and became an influential patron of the arts, a collector of antiquities and a highly original furniture designer. In 1806, Hope acquired the country seat at Deepdene, near Dorking in Surrey. Here, surrounded by his large collections of paintings, sculpture and antiques, Deepdene became a famous resort of men of letters as well as of people of fashion.
