Lettered bottom left: 'D: Chodowiecki in: & sc:' Depicts the anatomical institute (presumably in Berlin). A group of figures gathered around a dissecting table on which a pig is stretched out; behind the lecturer in background a cabinet filled with stuffed animals. From Franz Heinrich Ziegenhagen's 'Lehre vom richtigen Verheltnis zu den Schepfungswerken und die durch effentliche Einf_hrung desselben allein zu bewerkende algemeine Menschenbeglekkung' (1792). Chodowiecki was a Polish - German painter and printmaker with Huguenot ancestry, who is most famous as an etcher. He spent most of his life in Berlin, and became the director of the Berlin Academy of Art.
