Fine stipple engraving with delicate original hand-colouring. From an early 19th century French work on insects by Andre-Marie-Constant Dumeril titled 'Considerations Generales Sur La Classe Insectes', published in Paris in 1823. Andre Marie Constant Dumeril (1774 - 1860) was a French zoologist. He was Professor of Anatomy at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle from 1801 to 1812, when he became professor of herpetology and ichthyology.
