Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset KG (1500-1552) was Lord Protector of England from 1547 until 1549 during the minority of his nephew, King Edward VI. He was the eldest brother of Queen Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII. From Houbraken's series of portrait engravings set within elaborate cartouches titled 'The Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain'. They were published by Knapton originally C1740, this impression is c1820. Jacobus Houbraken was a Dutch line engraver who is known best for this series of portraits. Faint foxing in title area.
