Details

Depicts George Samuel Evans (1802-1868) asleep in the chair. Sir John O'Shanassy (1818-1883), Premier of Victoria, stands by the door. The Governor of Victoria, Henry Barkly (1815-1898), can be seen through the window. Charles Gavan Duffy and others sit at the table seen through the door. From 'Melbourne Punch'. Melbourne Punch began in 1855. From 1855-1861 Nicholas Chevalier was one of the principal cartoonists most of whose work was engraved by Samuel Calvert. Reverse blank.
