From 'Picturesque Views in England and Wales'. With original description.
Despite its commercial failure the Picturesque Views in England and Wales was an undoubted triumph from the artistic point of view, and it has always been considered one of the greatest series of prints after Turner. A large number of engravers were employed, four of whom, Jeavons, W. R. Smith, Wallis and Willmore, were respon_sible for ten or more plates each. As with the mezzotints of the Liber Studiorum, the etching played a crucial part in the engraving of the England and Wales plates, though in this case it was carried out by the engravers and not by Turner himself.
Slight overall toning. A few small scattered foxing spots outside the image area.
