John King (1838 - 1872) was an Irish soldier who had met George Landells in India where Landells had been sourcing sepoys and camels for the expedition into the Australian desert. He returned with Landells to Melbourne in 1860. He accompanied Burke and Wills on the expedition and was the sole survivor. Text on the reverse. From 'The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia', 1886.
