The source of the engraving used to be attributed to Giulio Romano, but has since been recognised as being Perino del Vaga's documented designs of c.1531/2 for the tapestries in the Salone di Giove in the Palazzo Doria in Genoa. From a series of engravings titled 'Recueil d'estampes d'apres les plus beaux tableaux et d'apres les plus beaux desseins qui sont en France'.
