The takahe Notornis, or South Island takahe; is a flightless bird indigenous to New Zealand and belonging to the rail family.
Broinowski was a Polish artist and ornithologist who arrived in Victoria c1857. From 1887 - 1891 he published 'The Birds of Australia' which contained about 300 chromolithographs.
