Veduta dei Portici d'Ottavi' Octavius Augustus constructed this portico near the theatre of Marcellus as a place of shelter to the people when it rained. He named it after his sister, Octavia. Rossini (1790-1857) was an Italian who earned a reputation as one of the best neoclassical etchers. His career coincided with a period of great archaeological activity so that so he was able to draw complete buildings which would have been partly hidden to 18th century artists.
