Robert Rich (1587-1658) was an Eglish colonial administrator who sought religious toleration in the North American Colonies. He was admiral of the fleet in 1642 and his navy supported Parliament in the English Civil Wars (1642-51). From Houbraken's 'Heads of Illustrious Persons', 1820 edition. Houbraken engraved this series of portraits setting them within elaborate cartouches. Originally published in 1747. Jacobus Houbraken (1698-1780) was a Dutch line engraver who is known best for this series of portraits. $140
