'The Queen and the Princess Louise. A Sketch in the House of Lords at the Opening of Parliament'. From 'The Graphic'. Central horizontal fold as issued. Reverse blank. CONDITION : Faint handling creases at in margins. Princess Louise accompanied the Queen to the Opening of Parliament for the second time on 9 February, 1871. She had become engaged to the Marquis of Lorne on 3 October, 1870. Queen Victoria was reluctant to open parliament in her widowhood. This occasion in 1871 arose through her need to get agreement for Princess Louiseā€™s dowry. The marriage took place on 21 March.
