'Veduta Generale del Monte Quirinale' The Quirinal Hill is one of the Seven Hills of Rome, at the north-east of the city center. The etching shows the colossal Roman "Horse Tamers" or Dioscuri in the foreground to the left. Rossini (1790-1857) was an Italian who earned a reputation as one of the best neoclassical etchers. His career coincided with a period of great archaeological activity so that so he was able to draw complete buildings which would have been partly hidden to 18th century artists.
