'Tufted-Tailed or Mountain Kangaroo (K. Pencillatus)' This engraving actually depicts the Tuan or Brush-tailed Phascogale (Phascogale tapoatafa). Lewin was an English-born artist active in Australia from 1800. The first professional artist of the colony of New South Wales, he illustrated the earliest volumes of Australian natural history. From Edward Griffith's English edition of Baron Cuvier's 'Animal Kingdom', 1827. A couple of marks. Publication line trimmed.
