Mezzotint on steel. 1855. 185mm by 235mm (platemark) 290mm by 425mm (sheet). East Bergholt House was the birthplace of Constable. From 'English Landscape Scenery', 1855. John Constable RA was an English Romantic landscape painter. He believed that imagination and emotion were an important part of artistic expression and so incorporated these tenets into his lush, idyllic scenes. Beginning in 1829, Constable worked closely with David Lucas to produce the mezzotints as a general survey of his work. A couple of faint foxing spots and a small handling crease within the platemark. Item #3011
