Copper-line engraving. 1823. 230mm by 160mm (image) 330mm by 230mmm (sheet). From ‘Histoire Naturelle, Botanique’ part of J.B.A.P.M. de Lamarck & J.L.M.Poiret, 'Tableau Encyclopédique et Méthodique. Botanique' (1791-1834). The images were taken from engravings after drawings by the German artist John Paul Nusbiegel which were based on banksias collected by Sir Joseph Banks. They were published in Joseph Gaertner's 'De Fructibus et seminibus plantarum', 1788-1792, and were the first engravings of banksias ever published.
